TOKYO, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Okagi Hayashi, a 115-year-old woman recognized as Japan's oldest living person, has died from heart failure over the weekend, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare announced on Monday.
Hayashi, born in September 1909, died at a hospital in her hometown of Toki, Gifu prefecture, on April 26.
She became the nation's oldest person after a woman from Ashiya city, Hyogo prefecture, passed away at the age of 116 in December last year.
Japan's oldest person is now Mine Kondo, a 114-year-old woman of Kota, Aichi prefecture, according to the ministry. ■
